Washington Cemetery is the final resting place of more than 325 American military veterans who served their country from the Black Hawk War of 1832 to Vietnam and beyond. Since 1999, Washington Cemetery Historic Trust volunteers have worked to accurately identify veterans who are buried here and to mark their graves. As part of this project, more than 100 veteran headstones and markers have been installed to honor them and their service. Research is continuing, and this list will be expanded as their proof of service is located.
Those who served in multiple wars are listed more than once below. We realize that there may be additional veterans who are not yet listed here. Please report any additions or corrections to Veterans@WashingtonCemetery.org.
Note: Veterans of the Civil War, World War I, and World War II comprise about 85% of the known veterans buried here. They will be added to the list at a later date.
